~ The Gift of Weaving ~

It's all about images.

Images and magic.

The author paints images with words.

Are Alice's experiences real?

Are they dreams?

Is it magic?

Does it really matter?

Alice's life is unravelling

She is stuck. Unable to leave grief.

Turning away those who would help her.

And then she sees a spider web.

Many webs shining with dew.

Webs glowing with moonlight.

Spiders weave webs.

Webs are whole universes

 for the spider

The spider is wisdom

The wisdom Alice needs

to weave her life back to wholeness.

Image- Wisdom - Wholeness

The words of Carol Lovekin

weave a magic world.

Enter this world and be

like Alice

transformed.

Wisdom is there.

Waiting like the spider.

Beautiful, wonderful, full of magic and life, scary, funny and truthful. I have just read ‘The Gift of Weaving’ for the third time. It does not pall - it’s as fresh and intriguing as the first time. Carol’s style and fine word craft are excellent, which give the story an easy-reading quality and good continuity.

There are many lessons learned and truths realised by the main character, Alice, as she both comes to terms with the death of her dear friend, Flora, and reclaims her life as a priestess of the Goddess.

However, there are lessons for us all within this story, about our attitudes, emotions and about taking good care of ourselves when venturing on journeys, especially those involving magic and ritual. The delightful juxtaposition of daily routine and tasks, alongside Alice’s spiritual journey, is enchanting.

This is an excellent and substantial first novel. Hopefully, we will not have to wait too long for another!

"Deep in the heart of the tree stump the old spider stirred, heeding the sudden shift in energy. She scuttled to the entrance of her lair assessing the signals as the myriad hairs on her body quivered their message. And between the worlds, the voice of wild magic sang on the air. Remain watchful, my sisters... the time is drawing close..."
